The Waiting...

My father-in-law has been sick for a while with some sort of terminal cancer.  About a week and a half ago, his sisters thought the end was imminent.  He is receiving hospice care and has been on morphine.  Mark got a text message this morning from Carol (his youngest sister) saying that both she and Sue (the oldest sister) were with their father and it wasn't looking good.  That was about 7 hours ago and we've heard nothing since.

I hate this feeling and I know it's hard on Mark, too, even though he is not there with his sisters.  The unknown...waiting for the inevitable.  I don't like this stage of life at all.

Chicago Concert at Red Rocks...Fantastic!

Mark and I had such a wonderful time last night...we went to our first concert at Red Rocks and saw Chicago!  First of all, the venue is absolutely magnificient!  As Wikipedia describes it, "Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock structure in Red Rocks Park near Morrison, Colorado (west of Denver), where concerts are given in the open-air amphitheatre.  There is a large tilted, disc-shaped rock behind the stage, a huge vertical rock angled outwards from stage right, several large outcrops angled outwards from stage left and a seating area for up to 9,450 people in between."  It is truly a majestic place!

This was my third time seeing Chicago and Mark's first time and he is now a real fan of theirs!  They are better than ever!  There are four original members still with the group.  Their well known songs sound fantastic in person, better than the recordings!  I think it was 1970 or 1971 when I first saw them and I think it was at the Boston Gardens.  I saw them again at the University of Vermont a couple years later when I was at St. Michael's College.

Sorry for the Ad

Once in a while I'll add a playlist to this blog and have it start automatically when this blog is accessed.  Today, I added one of my playlists and was listening to it as I worked on the computer.  What happened next really bummed me out and annoyed me to no end...a commercial advertisement played after about my 5th song on the playlist!  What!?

Since when has Playlist added commercials without telling their members?  Please know that I am NOT promoting these advertisements!  I wish they didn't occur in the middle of my playlist but I have no control over it.  For those of you who follow my blog, please let me know if I should take the playlist off or set it up so that it doesn't start automatically.  Thanks.

Too Many Things To Do

Well, I'm a little behind the power curve lately.  I thought I'd have the Best Life Photography Web site and blog up but it's probably going to be a while.  I've been focusing on the local and the national New Horizons Band tasks that I need to do before we head out on vacation, so something has to give.

Mark and I have also been spending one or two days a week with Sara and Sophia which is something we definitely like doing!  Sophia is changing every day and it's nice for Sara to have a change of "company", too.

Our morning bike rides have slowed down since I've been trying to get my seat adjusted; when we do the longer bike rides, my pubic bone kills me!  I had the people from the Pelotin bicycle store (where I bought it) adjust my bike seat twice and it's still not right.  I finally gave up with them and went to Lee's Cyclery in Fort Collins and a female employee adjusted it for me for free!  So, I hope to get out tomorrow morning to see if it's any better.  I sure hope it is!

The Hours...Slip Sliding Away

I can't believe it's been a week since I've made an entry in this blog!  I've been so busy working on various documents and coordinating with our Board and members of our local New Horizons Band.  I'm trying to get a lot of things in place before we leave for our East Coast trip because when we return, I'll be in a crunch mode to get a fall newsletter out for the National band organization.

I took a lot of pictures again a few days ago of Sophia and with each time I shoot, I get better.  My favorite photo is on the right (the black and white one of Sara and Sophia).  Click on it to see the latest pictures, too.

Nostalgic

Listening to my playlist brings back a lot of summertime memories when I was younger and makes me wish I could have gone to my 40th high school reunion last night!  There was just too much going on this summer to make it out to Massachusetts this month.

I have great memories of going to Nantasket Beach and Hingham Beach many, many times with Ellen and Donna, two of my good friends from school days and listening to several of these songs while soaking in the sun.  And I remember the silly shaving cream fights all of us would have with my brother, Tommy.

I really do wish there was a time machine that could transport me back to those earlier days, to relive only the happy events once more.
